The ingredients needed to cook Green Tomato Chutney:

  1. Use of green tomatoes.
  2. Use of apple.
  3. You need of red onion.
  4. Use of light brown sugar.
  5. You need of malt vinger.
  6. Take of salt.
  7. Prepare of ground garlic.
  8. You need of piece of ginger.

Steps to make Green Tomato Chutney:

  1. Chop tomatoes, red onion and apple.
  2. Add chopped vegetables to a large saucepan with vinegar, sugar, salt, garlic and ginger.
  3. Bring ingredients to the boil before reducing to a simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent the chutney sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  4. Add sultanas and continue to simmer for 15 more minutes.
  5. Remove from the heat and allow to cool before serving.

You literally chop the ingredients up, put them in a pot and cook them together for an hour. It's also a great way to use up green tomatoes at the end of the season. My Mum used to make green tomato chutney many years ago but she lost the recipe. I have spent ages looking for a replacement recipe & this is the closest to what we remember.
